We are not entirely sure why ceiling fans have such a bad rap with designers since they are so useful. I think their design has come a long way since the ceiling fans of the 70s and 80s. Take for example Fanimation. They have developed some pretty slick-looking ceiling fans that should refute the theory that all ceiling fans are ugly. Take for example Fanimation’s The Vetricco, a ceiling fan weighing in at 35lbs with a 15 degree blade pitch. The blades have a 60 inch sweep which should produce some really nice breezes in your room. This particular fan comes in glossy black with chrome accents (pictured) or in satin nickle with chrome accents.

For those of us living in Florida, a ceiling fan is a great way to keep cool and save on energy costs.

Light switches are dull. In fact, the coolest things we’ve seen from them is the dimmer. However, now that LEDs are becoming more affordable, companies are integrating them into their products. This has allowed Vantage Controls to introduce BriteTouch, a programmable and customizable keypad. The keypad (or switch) can contain up to eight fully programmable LEDs. Not only that, but the keypad light is fully customizable to fit the design needs of each user. These BriteTouch lighting control keypads work alongside other Vantage Controls home automation products.

My wife and I recently finished replacing the interior ceiling on our family room since the previous owners made a mess (the ceiling curved-in instead of being a straight line). Of course, as with everything else, a new room just calls for attention and since we didn't have a coffee table or a lamp, we looked around the web from something contemporary. We came across this Dumont table lamp that compliments our wall colors just right. We'd like to think that when it comes to decorating houses, we are pretty good at it, but we are probably wrong.

Anyway, the Dumont table lamp has a square lamp shade that provides that nice earthy warm glow that we love. It looks contemporary, yet retro. I think it was a nice match.
