Xenia Taler is a small company out of Toronto (that's in Canada for those that failed geography) run by Xenia Taler and Steven Koblinsky. They do hand-painted tiles like the gorgeous goldfish tile featured above. The tile measures 4 inches by 6 inches, though there is also a circular version. The tile is safe to use in kitchens, bathrooms, and table tops since they are made durable enough for installation jobs. Each of these tiles will set you back $34.00.

Another place that comes highly recommended is B&H Photo. They too have competitive prices and are well known among photographers of all kind.

This nine inch in diameter pendant light from Perch! screams chic. It is ideal for a kids room (kids can be chic too), because of the turquoise dots that adorn the shiny white ceramic.

The power of choice is something we love and FLOR makes us feel like Tony Montana with their modular rug tiles. Instead of purchasing a place rug where what you see is what you get, you purchase individual tile pieces which you can put together to form a bigger rug. The modular rug tiles are offered in different textures, patterns and colors to give you an endless array of options. Aster & Sage creates these beautiful Catupon pet mats out of recycled materials. The fabric is 78% recycled polyester/rayon and the outer fabric is 54% recycled sen suede appliqu?. You'll have two color choices on these 16 by 16 inch pet mats: paprika and teal. The designer, Linda Yesline, designs her home products first then finds the recycled materials that will make the vision come to fruition, which explains the light polyester batting padding on these pet mats. Pricing for the Catupon Pet Mats from Aster and Sage are unknown, but we'll update when the designer contacts us.

Instead of clogging-up our landfills with plastics Excellent Packaging & Supply has an innovative solution — utensils made out of potatoes named SpudWare. 80% potato starch and 20% soy oil make up the very simple formula, which according to manufacturer allows the cutlery to take heat. You'll need that kind of heat tolerance since you wouldn't like hot tomato soup to melt or bend while you are using these Earth-friendly disposable utensils. After about 6 months the utensils will biodegrade in the landfill and everyone is happy.

Still, like most "green" products SpudWare utensils are more expensive than their conventional plastic counterparts, which is a shame, because we hope these kind of products would be adapted by the general public at a more accelerated rate. Fortunately, the restaurant industry is taking notice and biodegradable disposable product use is increasing every year.

Canadian-based Europa Stairways Inc., operating in the United States as Europa Stairways LLC., designs custom-made stairs that you'd typically see in buildings that push the architecture envelope. Meshing wood with stainless steel, they achieve a wondrous level of sophistication in their stair design that is sensitively-modern.
